TASHS Inter-House Sports Competition

The 'Jama' group in action
The 2017 Inter-House Sport Festival was a 4 day action-packed competition as the students and staffs of Tanyigbe Senior High School gathered in their numbers on the school campus and Shekina football field respectively from Monday, 20th November to Friday, 24th November to witness this competition. This year's Inter - House Sports Competition was exclusively sponsored by FoodTech Limited, producers and distributors of Snappy, Corn and Exotic Snacks and partnered by Global FM and V1 TV. The students took part in varied sporting activities such as soccer, volleyball, handball, field and track events among others.

In a brief speech to inaugurate the event, the Assistant Headmaster of the school, Mr. Paul  K. Dorgbetor said, the outcome of sporting activities are enormous, with the likes of Asamoah Gyan, Dede Ayew, and Christian Atsu worth mentioning. He therefore urged the students to engage in any sport activity with all the intrinsic motivation they can muster to elevate them to their desired height one day in the future.

During the course of the festival, various students took part tirelessly in varied games and events to the admiration of all and sundry.

On the Friday that climax the competition, results were coagulated and House 1 (Red) nicknamed "1 Corner House" were adjudged the overall winners of the competitions. In an all-play-all boys’ soccer game, House 3 (Blue) topped the table with 7 points, followed by House 2 (Yellow) with 6 points and House 1 (Red) and House 4 (Green) with 3 and 1 points respectively.  In girls’ soccer game, House 4 topped the table with 7 points, House 1, 2nd with 5 points and House 2 and House 3 with 1 point each.

In the Volleyball boy’s division, the competition was keen with House 4 emerging as the eventual winners closely followed by House 1. In the girls division, House 4 again were the winners as they defeated House 3. The excitement was at the peak in the handball games, which was closely contested with House 4 emerging as the eventual winners in both the Boys and Girls division.

By all accounts, in the last two years, House 1 has consistently stayed in the number one position. This year too, the "1 Corner House" beat all the other houses to remain in the 1st position with 216 points. The 2nd position went to House 4 with 200 points. House 2 were in 3rd position with 148 points, while House 3 took 4th position with 131 points

Interestingly, the first year students gave their seniors a tough time in all events but lack the experience to overcome them. The prime purpose of the festival was met as various students were selected towards next year's Inter-School Sports festival based on merit. The entire student body were presented with products and paraphernalia from FoodTech and outstanding sports boys and girls were also presented with certificates and other forms of appreciations for their hard work.

Presenting the trophy to the winning house was the Assistant Headmaster, who thanked both the students, staffs and sponsors for their efforts in organizing such a competition. He however urged the students to accept the results in good spirit and remember that, there must be a winner at the end of every tournament and also as a sign of good sportsmanship.  He also urge them not to relent but must always endeavor to become the stars they aspired to be collectively and individually.

In addition, the Assistant Headmaster thanked the ICT tutor, Mr. B.B. Botchway and other tutors for their tireless efforts in bringing down FoodTech Limited to sponsor the competition, Global FM and V1 TV for their support in taking video coverage of the competition as well

The male teachers and the students boys soccer team climax the inter-house competition with a friendly soccer match which ended 2-0 in favor of the teachers.

The competition ended with much appreciation from the Sport master, Mr. Evan Afezuke and Sports Mistress, Ms. Elizabeth Gyaesayor to the entire staff for their indefatigable efforts in ensuring the success of the entire competition.

Long live Tanyigbe Sports, long live Volta and long live mother Ghana.
