The workshop is being organized by the Ghana Education Service in collaboration with the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) at ten (10) centres spread across the country.
The Director General explained that these participants are in turn expected to
train over 96,000 teachers in the respective 260 districts.
“But for the CoVID19 pandemic, this training should have been held between
April and June, and we’d not have disturbed your Yuletide festivities”, the
Director General said, and thanked the teachers. ”I appreciate you for turning
up in your numbers at a time when you’re expected to be celebrating Christmas
with your families”
Prof Opoku-Amankwa indicated that the President of the Republic, H.E Nana
Akufo-Addo had earlier in one of his Covid 19 addresses to the Nation indicated
that schools must prepare to re open in January 2021, “We in the Ghana
Education Service must therefore hold ourselves in readiness in anticipation of
Schools resumption, particularly, as we prepare to roll out the CCP curriculum
under the National Pre-tertiary Curriculum Framework (NPCF)”.
The Director General further clarified that the Common Core Programme is meant to bring teaching and learning in Ghana up to speed with the new approaches in the fast changing 21st century Education.
The CCP is expected to offer more relevant, more practical and a broader
opportunity to students to make informed choices for further education or to
enter the world of work.
According to the Director General the Common Core Programme will run for a four
year duration before students would be permitted to select elective subjects
they will pursue at the Senior Secondary School level.
The Regional Director of
Education for the Greater Accra Region, Madam Monica Ankrah, in her welcome
address commended the participants for their massive response to the workshop
invitation amidst Yuletide activities.
The Regional Director impressed upon the participants to be serious with the workshop because it’s so critical to the value chain of transferring and imparting knowledge through this Common Core to the classroom teacher.
The workshop is expected to end on Thursday December 31, 2020
